They’re All Made With One Simple Block!

One easy block was the inspiration for several beautiful quilts. In all cases batiks lend texture and interest to the overall design, making the quilts seem more complex than they actually are. The block and resulting quilts will be lovely in other fabric styles too.

The instructions for the River Squares block specify fat quarters. Jelly roll strips will also work and can be used to give the quilts a scrappier look, if you want. The finished block is 12″ square. Use as many as you need to achieve the quilt size you want.

Connie Kresin Campbell from Freemotion by the River designed the block and made the quilts. Her sweet baby quilt was made with 12 River Square blocks for a finished size of 39″ x  52″. Learn more about how it was made here.

The blue River Squares quilt size is 37 ½” x  37 ½” and is made up of 9 blocks. This charming little quilt will be pretty on a table or add more blocks for a lap quilt. Learn more at the free tutorial link at the end of this article.

A beautiful brown version was the first quilt Connie made from this block. It is 50″ x 62″ and made up of 20 blocks. This is a great size for a throw quilt. She also made matching throw pillows from the leftover fabric. While we could not find instructions they’re made from variations of the block and may inspire you to design your own.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
