Achieve Flat, Smooth Borders Every Time!

Do you find yourself rushing through the borders just to have a quilt top done? Don’t. After all the time you’ve put into creating the top, it pays to spend a little extra time to achieve flat, smooth borders.

Sherri, from A Quilting Life, has written an excellent article about borders. She provides many tips to help you get precise borders that fit and lay perfectly.

Tips for Producing Better Quilt Borders

Start with the width and measure each end plus across the middle. Average the three numbers to determine how long to cut the border. Attach the strips, then repeat the process for the next set of borders (if more than one), then the borders along the length.

Sherri also covers how to piece and press border strips and goes on to discuss fabric selection for borders (what do you want to emphasize?). There are many great tips in this article, even for experienced quilters.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
