They’re Both Charming and Functional Kitchen Accents!

Protect your counters with charming hot pads made from scraps. They’re so easy to make and wonderful in any color palette.

Plus, they can easily be enlarged into place mats, a table centerpiece, large pot holders, and more. Simply start with larger pieces of batting and backing.

Quilt As You Go Hot Pad Tutorial

The hot pads are constructed with Quilt-As-You-Go. That makes them extra quick and easy, as does the no-binding finish. Use Insul-Bright for the batting to make them heat-proof.

Chelsea from Sew Simple Home provides both a written tutorial and a video showing how they’re constructed. Note that the specified batting size is different between the two. Go with the size in the written instructions (6″ square) to allow for the backing to be 1/2″ larger on all sides (7″ square). The completed hot pad is about 6″ square.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
