Creatively Use Dollar Store Finds and Save Money!
Have you ever explored the dollar store with an eye toward items you can use in the sewing room? Karen Brown from Just Get It Done Quilts has done just that.
She found 10 items that can be put to good use while saving money on pricier quilting tools and notions. After watching her video it’s easy to imagine that there are probably other great finds that can be uncovered at the dollar store.

I go to Tuesday Morning stores in Houston TX for Quilting supplies also. They have jelly rolls, layer cakes and fat quarters. Benertex Brand

In the US, merchandise available in dollar stores varies by what the owner or franchisee can obtain from time to time. One can’t depend on any given item being available the next time you look!

I use the Dollar store wrinkle release spray instead of Best Press
One of my favorite sewing stopping stops…always find something to use or remake for sewing organization.
Hair clips to use for hand sewing of binding.

I can’t live without my sponge brush…like for painting…it cleans out my bobbin area on my domestic and my longarm without displacing anything.
the binder paper clips work great for holding the quilt sandwich together
Foam pencil grips to cover scissor points.
Balloons for needle grippers.
Cup with lid – for easy thread dispensing.
Timer – set for 45-60 minutes to remind you to take a stretch.
Napkin holder to store rulers.
Pot holders – mini ironing board.
Toe separator for bobbin holder
Door stops to raise back of sewing machine for better angle

Small tools.Plastic tool boxes with compartments for organizing small pieces( currently making a snake river log cabin quilt with 4400 pieces)

I’m quilting on a budget. Thank you for the ideas. They will come in handy.
I also use pipecleaners orchanelle stems to dig down and de-lint my machine every time or almost any time I change my bobbins
I get the plastic shoeboxes for organizing fabric scraps, keep them in a shoe rack from Walmart.
Empty Pringle cans are great for storing tubes of embroidery stabilizers.
Telescoping magnetic wands from the hardware store are great for picking up spilled straight pins.
I use the eyebrow shavers as seam rippers. Work really good.
Eyebrow trimmer with small razor blades make great seam ripper
