Make a Mat, Rug and More From Fabric Twine
A Wonderful Use for Long Skinny Scraps!
Are you starting to be inundated with scraps? Fabric twine is a wonderful way to use them up. It’s not hard to make and is a good project for in front of the TV, as it doesn’t require much concentration.
Once you have fabric twine on hand, you can make a beautiful mat from it. This version is several small circular mats stitched together to make a larger mat or rug. You can also use the small mats by themselves or keep going until you have a big round mat for your table or floor.
To make twine, pull out long scraps and cut or tear them into strips that are 1″ wide. Twist them together to form twine.
Cintia from My Poppet Makes shows how to make twine in the following video. You can also read her instructions here.
Cintia’s spiral mat is lovely, and shows how beautiful various colored scraps are once made into twine. Coil the twine and use a wide zig zag stitch to hold the mat together.
She added pieces of a non-slip pad to her mat so it can be used as a rug. You’ll find something similar here.
