Create an Easy DIY Cutting Table
Combine Inexpensive Parts for a Quick Project!
Are you looking for a large cutting table for your sewing room? This one created by Caroline from Sew Can She is so easy to make and relatively inexpensive.
It’s nicely sized at 80” x 56” and has lots of room for storage underneath. She even can fit two 24″ x 36″ cutting mats along one side.
Start with two IKEA Kallax units for the base. If there’s not an IKEA near you, Target has an 8 Cube Organizer Shelf that is nearly the same size.
The 13″ x 13″ cubbies are perfect for stacking fabric, books magazines and more. And, there are a lot of storage bins and baskets available that will fit the cubbies.
A small dresser fits between shelving units.
Use two inexpensive indoor doors for the top. It’s simple to bolt them together with brackets to create a single surface to set on top of the shelving units. Place non-slip shelf liner under the doors to prevent the top from sliding around.
Caroline’s table is about 32″ tall. You can add casters or even blocks of wood to increase the height if you need a taller table.
