The Top Makes a Lovely Runner Too!

This beautiful throw pillow is a great project for your favorite red, white, and blue scraps or leftover 5″ charm squares. Or make it up in colors to match a quilt and enjoy it any time of the year. It will also be lovely in Christmas colors and prints for other seasons.

The pillow top can also be finished as a table runner. It’s simple to add more stars and lengthen the borders if you prefer a longer runner.

Choose a nice combination of prints for the scrappy piano key borders. Or make the classic version with a plain border by substituting bands of fabric.

The designer used Robert Kaufman’s Linen in white and another in navy for the band of stars. Linen is wonderfully soft, has a lovely texture, and a casual look. Plus, straight-line quilting in contrasting thread works nicely with it. In the simpler version, a flax-colored linen was used for the stars and borders.

A spring version from Simple Stitches Fabric Shop shows how beautiful the design can be in prints for other seasons. Learn more about this example here.

Once completed, the pillow designed by Taunja Kelvington from Carried Away Quilting is 14 ½” x 20 ½”.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
