Half-Square Triangles with Stripes Are So Easy

They Provide Unlimited Design Options!
Ten stripes are used to make four half-square triangles at a time (HSTs) in this clever block. Combine the four HSTs to create a 12″ finished block.
The HSTs can be combined in several configurations to form blocks. Each of the blocks can produce one or more quilt layouts.
One possible block (center) and two examples of quilt layouts.
Plus, while the demo shows how to make the HSTs with ten stripes, you can easily vary that number for even more design options. Then, of course, color is another factor.
Each of the 4 resulting HSTs is slightly different.
You can achieve an unlimited variety of quilt layouts depending on the colors you choose and their placements. These HSTs are incredibly versatile and so much fun to play with.
To become familiar with the block, you may want to start by simplifying your options. The image below shows the block in two color variations with charming mini quilts displayed below the blocks. The mini quilts are about 24 1/2″ square.
Teresa from Down Under demonstrates how to make the HSTs in the following video. Then she shows several ways to configure them.
