Hankies and Doilies Make a Lovely Quilt

It’s a Fun and Easy Project!
Doilies and hankies are beautiful in quilts, adding a lovely vintage look to the completed projects. This quilt is made with both and produces delightful results.
Use vintage doilies and hankies from your collection. Or start with new ones for that lovely old-fashioned look. You can find pretty 7″-8″ doilies to purchase here and vintage-look 12″ hankies here.
The hems are trimmed from the hankies (after pre-washing), and they are stabilized with fusible lightweight interfacing. Temporary adhesive spray is used to adhere the doilies to the background squares. You’ll sew the doilies down during the quilting process.
Use one hankie and one doily square to make two half-square triangles (HSTs). Create as many as you need to produce a quilt of the size you want. Arrange the HSTs into a pleasing design and add borders to pull all the colors together.
The finished quilt, as shown, is about 52 ½” wide by 73 ¾” long and uses 24 HSTs. Change the size by adjusting the number of blocks. The finished half-square triangles are about 10 ⅝” x 10 ⅝”.
You’ll find a video by designer Allie Aller from National Quilters Circle showing how easy this quilt is to make, along with the quilt pattern at the following link.
