Make a Runner and More with Fun Halloween Blocks
They Can Be Used Separately or Together in Many Types of Projects!
A crow, a pair of pumpkins, and a jack o’lantern combine to create a festive runner for Halloween. Make it up in your favorite spooky-season colors and enjoy displaying it every year.
The block patterns are available separately or as a set and can be used for many types of projects. This runner is just one example.
All three blocks designed by Sandara Healy are created with standard piecing. There’s no paper piecing involved.
The finished blocks are 12″ square.
A free tutorial demonstrates how to make the blocks into the runner. Any three blocks can be used so have fun making your own unique version. We’d love to see a Christmas version (with different blocks and without the cute spiderweb quilting!).
The completed runner is about 42″ x 18″.
The pumpkin block is easy to make and very versatile. Align the two so the smaller pumpkin is on either the left or right. As the designer suggests:
“Add a simple border to make a delightful pillow as a gift or to decorate your home for fall or Halloween. Three blocks together would make a lovely table runner or table topper. Or you could raid your stash and make a wall hanging with nine pumpkin blocks in gorgeous shades of gold and orange.”
The completed two-pumpkin block is 12″ square.
The crow block may be our favorite of the three blocks. It too can be used in many types of projects. Make yours solid black or give it some texture with tone-on-tone prints. A small button works nicely for the eye. Plus, the crow can be made to face either left or right.

The charming jack o’lantern block is so festive and fun. It’s sure to make everyone who sees it smile. As with the other blocks, it can be used in many types of projects.
