Or, make an afternoon of it and gather the kids around to help make ornaments while Christmas cookies are baking. The ornaments themselves will prompt memories for years to come of the special time you spent together.
Each ornament is simple to make and will go together quickly. Minimal sewing is involved.
Star Ornaments
We can’t decide which version of star ornaments we like best so we’re including the tutorials for all three.
The first ornament, Country Stars from Baju-Baju-Marysiowe, will be lovely in just about any setting. This star ornament is very simple to make. Just make a paper hexagon to use as the pattern (see the next tutorial). Hers was about 4″ on each side.
The second star ornament is a modification of the Country Stars shown above.
The gold seed beads add a nice decorative touch to the Pentagon Star Ornaments by Virginia Wysong.
The next ornament, by Rose of Threadbare Creations, also uses little beads. We love the cheerful colors she’s chosen.
“Fennel” Origami Ornament
This gorgeous ornament is the most complex of those included in this article. Even so, it’s still a quick and easy project that’s worth the extra time. Choose fabrics you love and have fun choosing beads and buttons to make your ornament extra special.
Leslie at Everyday Artist has made several wonderful ornaments, which you can see here. Sadly, this is the only one she gives a pattern for but she says patterns for the other flower shapes are available in the book Flower Origami by Kumiko Sudo.
