A Great Project for Charm Packs and Jelly Roll Strips!

These colorful placemats are so easy to make and provide lots of fun playing with colors. Solid fabrics are beautiful in this project but small-scale prints and batiks will be lovely too.

Ombre fabrics will be wonderful, as well. You’ll find a nice selection of ombre fabrics here and solid fabrics here to give you some color ideas. Both 5″ charm squares and 2 1/2″ jelly roll strips will work nicely for this project.

Pixelated Spectrum Placemats

We love how each placemat is a different predominant color. They’ll look so festive all together on your table. Of course, you can coordinate your placemats around a color theme rather than having each be a different color.

Select charm packs or a jelly roll in a range of colors and cut each piece into 2 1/2″ squares. Lay out the pieces in a pleasing arrangement for a colorwash effect, then start stitching. You’ll be pleased by how quickly these go together, even for beginning quilters.

The finished placemats, by Sarah at Coop Crafts, are 12″ x 18″. You can easily make a baby quilt by sewing four placemats together, perhaps with sashing in between, or go even larger for a table topper or lap quilt.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
