Use Up Leftovers in This Beautiful Runner

It’s Great in Any Color Palette!

We have long admired this beautiful runner. It’s stunning in autumn colors and will be wonderful in any color palette. It’s easy to imagine it made up in Christmas fabrics, spring pastels and many other color themes.

While it looks complex, it’s really quite easy to make. Unfortunately, an exact pattern is not available. But it’s easy to make the runner without one, as long as you’re comfortable with a free-form project.

French Braid Table Runner

Debbe from Ragstofishes shows exactly how she made the runner in an article (linked to below). Start with 2 1/2″ jelly roll strips (leftovers are perfect) and play with layout to get the runner size you want.

Jenny from Missouri Star Quilt Co. demonstrates how to sew the strips together in this video. She uses The Binding Tool to cut angles for the outside edges, while Debbe sewed strips together and then trimmed the edges. Go with whatever method works best for you and that will produce the width and length you want.

Basically, ignore the big central box and just sew strips together like Jenny demonstrates (as if you’re making one side of her runner). Be sure to make a pieced section that is longer than you want your runner to be (according to the small squares running down the center.

Then, use a long ruler to trim the sides and both ends. Make sure to trim both ends through the middle of a square center block for symmetry. When trimming the sides, align your long ruler through the small center blocks and cut at the same width on both sides.

Debbe explains how she made her runner in the following article.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
