Keep Blocks Perfectly Aligned When Attaching Sashing
July 13, 2017 | Quilting How-To
| No More Wonky Tops with Misaligned Blocks!
It can be a challenge when putting a quilt together to attach long strips of sashing. While it’s easy stitching, the challenge comes with keeping the blocks, and connecting sashing strips, aligned with each other. If they’re off, by even a quarter inch, the whole quilt seems a bit off.
In the following video from QNNtv you’ll learn a handy trick for making sure all the blocks are perfectly aligned with each other.
It will take a bit longer than just sitting down and sewing but the results are worth it. Each block will line up perfectly with those next to it, as will the sashing strips between blocks in each row.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!

Good tip looks easy to do
Cool idea. What if you just sewed the strip to one set of blocks, then marked it, using the blocks as your guide? Instead of sewing a long strip in between, I actually piece my sashing strip in as a border around the block. That way I have the seam to match up points to. Course if you don’t want seam lines in your sashing strips, you wouldn’t want to do it this way.
This is a good tip as long as everything is squared up nicely, the fabric does not stretch, etc. It’s not alway a perfect world in Quilt Land – the next row of blocks may be just a bit off. But, all in all, it’s not a bad tip. Done this before.
Thank you for the awesome tip, I used it today and my blocks are lined up perfectly!!!
