It Will Be Stunning In Your Favorite Colors!

A fresh spin on the nostalgic Grandmother’s Flower Garden hexagon makes a striking modern quilt. Whether you choose bold colors or soft ones, the results will be eye-catching.

Unlike vintage quilts, the hexagons in this one are made entirely by machine. You’ll need a Large 60 Degree Diamond Ruler to cut diamonds from strip sets. There are no Y seams involved in making this quilt.

Use a favorite combination of 2 1/2″ jelly roll strips or yardage from your stash. Choose an accent fabric to add pop to the quilt (a black and white stripe and a metallic-look gold were used in the examples).

Designer Krista Moser provides instructions for three quilt sizes:

  • Twin size 60”x 75”
  • Lap size 55″ x 63″
  • Baby size 40″ x 55″

She recommends the Creative Grids Large 60 Degree Diamond Ruler, although other brands may work just as well.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
