They’re Not Just for Hot Food!

Whoever invented bowl cozies is a genius. The cozies are essentially hot pads shaped like a bowl. They’re perfect for transporting and eating bowls of hot food – and cold ones, like ice cream.

If you use all 100% cotton materials in your cozies you can put them right in the microwave (poly will melt). Remove and transport hot bowls safely without singeing your fingers.

Cozies can be made in fabrics to match your kitchen, for a particular season and in colors a gift recipient will enjoy. They make wonderful gifts any time of the year.

Plus, there are a number of ways that cozies can be used, other than for bowls of food. You’ll find some ideas here. Read through the comments for more ideas.

They’re also simple to make and a good use for fabric already in your stash. These lovely cozies start with 10″ layer cake squares and fit bowls up to 6″ across.

The designer, Happy Hour Stitches, provides great instructions. She also provides an FAQ page that you’ll want to read before you start (find it here). Among other good tips it includes instructions for altering the size of your cozies.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
