This Quilt is Easy Enough for Confident Beginners!

Besides the striking colors, much of the appeal of this gorgeous quilt comes from the controlled scrappy look. There’s scrappy, and then there’s scrappy that is coordinated around specific colors, in this case red, white and black.

A variety of neutral fabrics in cream, tan and light gray form the “white” group. Assorted reds and blacks form the other two groups. The fun polka dot black sashing and red corner squares bring order to the controlled chaos.

News Flash Quilt

The scrappy nature of this quilt makes it so beautiful and interesting. The softly colored fabrics give it a vintage look, as well. You can do the same with your version by choosing three color groups. Select a color group for the background and two contrasting colors to feature. You’ll have a gorgeous quilt in your favorite colors once you are done.

The quilt, designed by Sarah Maxwell and Dolores Smith, is 63 1/2″ x 75 1/2″ and perfect for snuggling with on the couch. Add more blocks to make it bed sized. A free pattern is available in a lap size, or the pattern for the bed sized quilt is available for a fee.

A pattern is also available for a bed sized version that’s 87 1/2″ x 99 1/2″.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
