Surprises Hide Inside Cute Little Fabric Houses
Make These Up for Christmas and Other Times of the Year!
Pretty little houses covered with fabric are delightful for the holidays, birthdays and other special occasions. The hinged roofs open so you can put treats inside, making them perfect little gifts.
These will be so charming mixed in with your holiday decor. Or make them up in fabrics for other seasons and occasions, then fill them with appropriate goodies. They are sure to delight just about everyone.
Firm card stock, grayboard or chipboard is used to form the houses. Fabric is glued to the outsides. Make windows and doors with fabric or felt and add button decorations if you’re so inclined.
The designer specifies 2.5 mm “card stock or gray stock” for making the houses from. You can see by the photos of the roofs that this is quite thick, about 1/10th of an inch. A thinner stock, such as this chipboard (1.45 mm), should work just as well. The houses are small enough that they’re not likely to bend with a somewhat thinner weight cardboard base. If you prefer to use a heavier base, this chipboard is 2.54 mm.
Keep in mind that the pattern is sized for cutting the card stock. You’ll need to add a seam allowance when cutting fabric from the same pattern. Add enough extra fabric to wrap around the card stock and glue to the back. One centimeter is specified but a third to a half of an inch should work, depending on the thickness of the chipboard used.
