Calculate Borders, Backing and Binding Online
There Are Calculators for Determining Some Block Sizes, Too!
Do you dread having to calculate how much fabric you need to finish your quilt? Avoid mistakes and too much or, heaven forbid, too little fabric with these online calculators.
The first one, from Lily Street Quilts, calculates borders, backing and binding. It’s very simple to use. Just enter the appropriate measurements and you’ll know right away how much fabric you’ll need (here’s how to measure for flat borders).
A second site, Quilter’s Paradise, offers a set of useful online calculators. You’ll find easy-to-use calculators for several common quilt math equations.
Besides yardage calculators, there are others that calculate cutting sizes. One that caught our eye is the “Shape Calculator”, which:
“Calculates shape dimensions and seam allowances for a variety of shapes including squares, triangles, diamonds and hexagons.”
